HighSpin does presentations in person, via the Internet and by phone.
Webinars and podcasts
I have already produced webinars on a variety of topics and is committed to developing more on a regular basis. You can attend these monthly live and take part in a question-and-answer session at the end, or you can access them via the Internet at a time that might be more convenient for you. In some cases webinars are on a stand-alone topic, on other occasions they are combined with other presentations to provide a comprehensive package).
I am also available to speak at conferences, both as a keynote speaker and as a session leader. Possible topics are listed below, but all are designed to stimulate the audience’s thinking and to move them to consider new points of view, as well as new management skills.
Live presentations can range from a thirty minute speech to a business association, to an interactive in-depth seminar lasting two days and customized to the needs of specific organizations. Fees vary according to specific needs.
I will take on pro-bono speaking engagements within a reasonable distance of my location in Smiths Falls, Ontario. Destinations further afield may be negotiable. I welcome calls from Rotary clubs and opportunities to help with fundraising or business events.
Topics on which Mike will speak include (but are certainly not limited to):
Better Roughly Right than Precisely Wrong: Why Accounting is Broken and How To Fix It
An overview of the strengths and weaknesses of accounting and why the information left off of financial statements is often more important than the information on them.
The three most common phobias about financial statements – and how to correct them in 30 minutes
Many people flinch when they see a financial report, simply from a childhood fear of math or confusion about money. We all grew up with different ideas about money and most of us have received no formal or informal financial training. As adults though the expectation is that we can all make informed financial decisions?
Deadly enemies: the accountant and the environment
Accountants are killing the environment through misinformation. Find out why our present financial systems can’t tell you what’s going on in your business environmentally (literally).
Financial Literacy: how come they don’t teach us about money?
It doesn’t matter what job you do, it will always involve numbers in some form or another. Despite this the training provided in school for real life math is almost non-existent. It’s not a question of being good with math! It’s a question of being taught how to manage your life!
Consulting and analysis
Financial literacy is a problem for every organization, regardless of industry, location, size, sophistication or management. Our present educational system provides almost no training in basic financial concepts, let alone their practical application. It should come as no surprise that, as result, a majority of the personnel in your organization are not financially literate. Since our world runs on numbers, this can’t help you, and in many cases it may unknowingly hurt you. I can identify the deficiencies in your company training and provide a strategic plan about how you can correct this learning gap in your business.
Fees for consulting services vary depending on the project.
